Were you in any bands previous to the Deftones? No
What's the first record you bought/remember hearing? I think it was 'Funky Town' by Lipps Inc.
Who was the first band you ever saw live? My first concert wasn't until I was about 15, when I saw the Cure, the 'Disintregration' tour.
What is your favorite Madonna song? 'Bedtime Stories,' the Björk one.
What's the worst day job you've had to do to pay the rent? I worked at a cafeteria at the college, where I served gravy to all the fat college kids.
Have you ever been involved in petty crime? Breaking and entering. Never got charged.What do you think of the current music scene in California? I think somebody made up the scene. I see all the bands, but there a bunch of different scenes. I see Sacramento as something different to LA. I real don't think about it, cos the minute we start making such a big deal that it's a scene and it blows up, next year it's gonna be the old scene, and I don't wanna be part of anything that's gonna have a big label on it, that's gonna be hyped up. We don't need to be hyped, our music's gonna do it on it's own. Talk is good, and hype is what it is, and the more hype you get, the easier it is for people to jab out at you and bring you down. We've worked to hard to make ourselves get to where we're at and I'd rather grow slowlybut surely than get all hyped up, just to get knocked down.
What are your memories of your first Deftones gig? We played a barbecue in somebody's backyard and it was pretty fun. We had no lyrics or nothing and were trying to pretend that we had a band! Totaly unprofesional, just crazy. I was like 15 or 16 and I didn't care, we were just so happy to be playing a show, probably in front of 15 people we sucked.
What band would you most like to tour with? PJ Harvey, just so I couls see her everyday.
Who do you think is the most heavy metal band of all time? Slayer.
Is there a band you would leave the Deftones to join if they asked? Weezer.
Do you skate? Not too much any more, cos I'm getting old and weathered.
Have you ever had any bad accidents while skating? I've never had any broken bones, but I've had loads of bruises.
Do you follow sports? Not too much, no. I love watching boxing though-Jake La Motta was the best boxer of all time.
What's your favorite drink? Vodka and Gatorade.
Do you have any hobbies aside from music? Sex. I don't get alot of practice in, no-that's why it's my favorite.
What's your favorite TV show? Good Times.
Is there any TV show you insist on having taped while your on the road? No, I'm not that much of a freak.
What's your favorite movie? Star Wars.
What/who is your favorite book/author? I don't read.
Who's the most fanciable woman in the world? Who's tight? Madeline Stowe or Fiona Apple. I wouldn't want to have a conversation with them though.
If your house burned down, what one item would you
risk your life to save? My kids! A personal item? I don't
really have anything.
